The law firm was founded in August, 2007, near Jackson, Mississippi in the Barnett Reservoir area, which is now incorporated into Flowood, Mississippi.  The goal of our firm is to resolve elder issues, that’s why we named it The Elder Law Firm.

Our practice includes family estate planning and Medicaid asset preservation law.  Too many good, hardworking people lose their life’s earnings because of long-term care needs and the lack of planning.  We help the elderly retain their dignity while passing along their family estate… no matter how large or small.

We believe that we have been entrusted with a God-given responsibility to help the most vulnerable in our society.  This is why we are primarily dedicated to Elder Law.

Mr. Young is the founder of The Elder Law Firm and is an Elder Law and Trust Attorney.  He received an undergraduate degree in History at the University of Southern Mississippi and a Juris Doctorate degree from Mississippi College School of Law.  Prior to practicing law, he was a high school history teacher. 

Mr. Young made the transition to Elder Law after an extensive career in litigation.  His compassion for senior citizens and the need for protection of their assets led to this decision. 

Mr. Young is a Member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) an exclusive national organization decicated to assisting senior citizens with legal issues.

Philip A. Buchanan focuses his practice on estate planning, personal asset protection, and business asset protection, as well as planning for dementia, special needs, Medicaid, and long-term care. Mr. Buchanan conducts seminars for private organizations as well as for attorneys on various elder law topics, and has been recognized by Mid-South Super Lawyers in the area of elder law.  He is licensed to practice in all Mississippi courts as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of Mississippi and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.  Mr. Buchanan earned his B.B.A. at the University of Mississippi and his J.D. and M.B.A. at Mississippi College.  Mr. Buchanan recently completed his LL.M. from Stetson University College of Law.

Mr. Busbee is the Senior Financial Advisor in the firm.  He has an extensive financial background which began in the early 1970’s.

This experience includes more than 20 years of executive positions in the banking industry, and 15 years of financial and management consulting with EncorEnterprises, pllc.

Mr. Busbee has a deep commitment to senior issues and employs innovative solutions to challenging circumstances. 

Molly is Executive Legal Assistant to Mr. Young.  She has a BBA from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee.  She has an outstanding legal background with 25 years experience with some of the most prestigious firms in the Jackson area.  

Molly is creative and well organized.  Combined with her cheerful personality and exceptional legal expertise, she provides the comfortable assurance that our senior clients need...especially at some of the most critical times of their lives.  

As an integral team member, Molly shares our goals and supports the mission of The Elder Law Firm.

Erin is a Paralegal with a wide range of legal experience.  She has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Cincinnati with specialty courses in Estates and Probate.  Erin's background includes experience with Wills, Power of Attorneys, Conservatorships and Trusts. 

Erin has a high energy level, a great personality and excellent organizational skills.   She communicates well with The Elder Law Firm senior clientele.
